When a specialty license plate is purchased, it will normally be retained for the 10 year life of the plate, resulting in up to $250.00 going directly to the charitable organization from the annual use fees. Each purchased plate visible on Florida vehicles constantly promotes the charitable cause and markets the plate.
According to official DHSMV sales statistics, overall specialty plate sales declined last year, despite a reduction in registration fees.
In a survey of 1,000 customers, we ascertained that the single deterring factor to purchase a specialty plate is the initial entry cost.
A $25.00 reduction in the cost to switch to a plate outside of the registration renewal period would reduce the online purchase cost from $86.65 to $61.65.
A $25.00 reduction in the cost to switch to a plate and renew registration would reduce the online purchase cost from $162.99 to $137.99.
Once the transaction is processed by the DMV, the $25.00 user fee* is transmitted back to the organization. So the organization gets all the funds back that were paid to promote the sale of its plate and has another plate on the road. The customer will generally keep the plate for at least the 10 year plate cycle.
* For specialty plates with a different user fee, the promotion can be adjusted specifically to that user fee value.
Now is the time to encourage first-time buyers to purchase your specialty plate.
How the Program Works for the Organization:
The organization prepays $2,500.00 for 100 reduced fee transactions @ $25.00 per transaction.
A report is generated to the organization advising as to how the promotion is going.
If the promotion still has a balance of funds after 6 months, the organization can elect to extend the promotion or receive a refund of the remaining balance.*
If the balance maintained by the organization is exhausted, the organization can elect to extend the program by making another deposit or terminate the program
*less credit card processing fees if the deposit is paid by credit card.
How the Program Works for the Customer:
A specific landing page is created with the $25 reduction in fees.
The organization can actively promote the price reduction as a promotion at a specific event or in a Newsletter and on their website with a direct link to the promotional reduced price landing page.
The customers order is processed at the reduced rate.
No administration time, additional follow up or any other extra costs incurred by the organization.
Once payment has cleared, you will receive further instructions to set up the program. It takes approximately 3 days to establish the landing page for the program.
