Supporting Florida's charities, one plate at a time!
Imagine if you could devise a system that makes it easy for millions of citizens to support their favorite charity every year. A system in which they voluntarily give millions of dollars to causes they care about and place a prominent announcement of their support on their motor vehicle. This is the specialty license plate program, and it is now available in 47 states - and it first started in Florida in 1986.
Specialty license plates are available to any owner or lessee of a motor vehicle who is willing to contribute an additional fee (“annual use fee”) for the privilege. This user fee is collected and then distributed by the Florida Department of Revenue directly to the organization in support of the particular cause or charity signified in the plate’s design and designated by statute. Additional state fees apply. Order your tag online today, and help support Florida's charities and state agencies.
You can now order a new Florida specialty license plate and personalize it - all online. Show your individuality and support a great cause.
Since 1986, Florida’s specialty license plate program has raised over $500 million for worthy causes and over 1.2 million Floridians annually participate in the program. For statistics on Florida's specialty license plate program, click here.
Florida Specialty license plates support a wealth of causes and organizations. They are a matter of State Pride, many of which are unique to Florida. In 2012, over $30 million was raised for the organizations represented by the 120 specialty plates, and the state collected an additional $18 million in fees and taxes, showing Florida continues to be among the top states for philanthropic-giving by its citizens. MyPlateFL.com now provides online convenience for buying Specialty License Plates, including the all-new Miami Marlins tag, and 'Go Team USA' Olympic redesigned tag. Specialty License Plate Program Generated Nearly $50 million in 2012

In addition to the $28.00 "New Plate Replacement Fee" and the $5.00 annual "Specialty License Plate Processing Fee", the Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles deducts 'Program Administration Fees' for managing the specialty license plate program each year directly from the revenue that the specialty plate organizations receive, calculated by the number of actual new specialty plates that are sold for each organization, multiplied by $3.18 per plate. According to FY 2011/2012 report, 130,601 new specialty plates were issued, resulting in a charge of $575,144.34 to cover the administration costs for the program. For sales statistics, click here.
